The BA.5 subvariant of Omicron has been driving a surge in coronavirus cases in several countries, including India. It has also been declared a dominant variant in the US by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Furthermore, experts have noted that the new subvariant has the ability to reinfect people within weeks of having COVID-19.
