Coronation Street fans make prediction as they beg star 'don't leave'

Many Coronation Street fans have issued similar demands after being gripped to the show during Wednesday's episode.

The latest instalment of the long-running ITV soap saw Evelyn Plummer, played by Maureen Lipman, head to the bistro with friends Roy Cropper and Yasmeen Metcalfe. But a phone call soon stopped her in her tracks, and she rushed to the hospital.

When she got there, it was clear she was there to see Corrie newcomer Cassandra Plummer, played by Claire Sweeney. The troubled character is a recovering drug addict who came to Weatherfield to seek help from her mum.

Cassie is Tyrone Dobbs' mum and she also hopes to connect with her son, who is convinced she is dead. Viewers were thrilled as Cassie made her Cobbles bow as she watched on as Evelyn spoke to Tyrone.

Emotional scenes saw things become heated before Evelyn shouted "He thinks you're dead" to Cassie, who then shed a tear at the shocking revelation. Viewers were loving the interaction.

On Twitter, David said: "The best, most well written & performed scene I’ve seen in Coronation Street for a long time - Brava to both players - The timing, the delivery, the emotion all superb, right down to the tear that rolled down Claire Sweeney’s cheek as Maureen Lipman left."

Talia said: "Omg PLEASE never get rid of Evelyn … absolute class of an actress. Please keep her safe!!!" and Heather said: "Evelyn is without a doubt the best character we've had on Corrie in years. Never leave". Charlotte said: "Please don't ever let Evelyn leave #Corrie".

Many also predicted Dame Maureen will sweep some awards for the performance. Yasmin said: "All the awards please for Maureen Lipman this evening". Jenny said: "Evelyn should get all the soap awards after that".

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITVX
