Coronation Street fans had their say as their attention was grabbed by the very opening shot to Monday night's episode (May 1). After being warned of 'upsetting scenes' ahead, viewers ended up complaining for an unexpected reason.
After the opening credits the first thing they saw was a commemorative King Charles III plate to mark the coronation of His Majesty taking place this Saturday May 5. The large plate took pride of place in the home of Sally and Tim Metcalfe.
The collectable was displayedin the ITV soap while former councillor and mayor of Weatherfield Sally and her husband had breakfast together as they chatted about Tim's worries over mum Elaine Jones' relationship with bogus businessman and serial killer Stephen Reid. They also had on display Union Jack hand-waving flags ahead of this weekend's historic event.

But @MatthewMitt6 huffed: "Oh FFS forgot all the soaps will be loaded with coronation stuff now." And @Rosepetal98 complained: "What an awful way to start an episode! Eww! #NotMyKing #Corrie."
@floweroflondon said with a laughing emoji: "Sal's got her big coronation plate out." And they said: "I'm glad they warned me of upsetting scenes. That plate was very distressing."
@fussyMcWhiskers pointed out: "#corrie It's Coronation Coronation Street in Sally's house." And @andy_eastfield remaked "I pledge allegiance to the King & Queen" as they shared a photo of the ITV soap icons Jack and Vera Duckworth.
@Jaimeleaa_ said: "No surprise to anyone that Sally has a coronation plate." And @soaps_extra said: "Obsessed with sally being a royalist and having the plate."
The coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey, London and will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Ceremony will see King Charles crowned alongside The Queen Consort, Camilla.
