Coronation Street actor Sam Robertson has hinted that there's a possibility he may call time on the soap over his current love triangle storyline.
Sam's character Adam Barlow is not in a good place with wife Sarah Platt after a Fatal Attraction-style sting by his on-screen ex, Lydia Chambers.
But the 36-year-old actor feels the story is very much like his 2020 storyline, when Adam cheated with the cobbles’ Carla Connor.
His constant arguments with wife Sarah and the affair with Lydia has left Sam undecided over his future on the cobbles.
He sighed: “Sometimes you pick up a script and I feel like I am doing that same scene as I did 12 months ago.
“At first, I was a little bit troubled by it because we did a storyline when Adam had a fling with Carla. I don’t know if it’s too soon for more of that?
“Tina and I have gone from working together and a lot of harmony to suddenly being at each other’s throats. So it’s been really tough to do that again so soon.
“Sometimes it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, it has been five and a half months that we’ve been in this storyline.
“I definitely feel like it needs to recalibrate. Who is this character I’m playing now? With the confusion Adam is feeling, I’m kind of feeling that myself as an actor.”
Sam, as the son of the late Mike Baldwin, joined the soap as a teen in 2004 for three years, coming back six years ago.
Yet he has enjoyed working with Rebecca because it felt fresh.
Sam explained: “It has been something different – sometimes familiarity breeds contempt.
“As an actor, you are used to working on different characters. I’m at a stage now where I’ve not played another character for over six years. So it’s like, ‘Wow, this is mad’.”
Sam is taking time off after a hard few months filming, saying that working throughout the pandemic had been a challenge.
He added: “I’m was coming home at night to a hotel room on my own. Sometimes you feel like you’re stuck in a bit of a rut. The job takes over your life.”
