Convicted Glasgow killer back behind bars after crashing vehicle into parked car

A convicted killer is back behind bars after crashing his car while disqualified from driving.

Anthony McGinley, 38, struck a parked car in Glasgow's Cardonald on April 9 2023. The parked car also struck another vehicle causing significant damage to all three.

McGinley was on licence at the time after he was found guilty of a fatal knife attack in 2012. McGinley was sentenced to nine years for stabbing Darren Gavan, 25, in the city's Castlemilk.

McGinley pled guilty to culpable homicide after initially facing a murder charge at the High Court in Glasgow

He was recalled to complete his sentence after his previous offences came to light. McGinley pled guilty yesterday to careless driving and driving while disqualified.

He also admitted not identifying himself as the driver to police as well as drink driving.

Sheriff Vincent Lunny sentenced McGinley to 10 months to run consecutive with his current jail term which ends in May 2027.

The court heard that two cars were parked in a small bay around 7.30pm.

Prosecutor Nicolas Konopate said: "McGinley lost control of his Audi and collided head on with the offside of one of the cars which caused significant damage.

"The impact caused the car to move from its parked position towards another car which caused offside damage to it."

McGinley left the car with an orange bag for life, ignoring calls to stay at the scene.

The Audi was noted to have been damaged with air bags deflated and smoke emitting.

Police were able to trace McGinley to his home from the licence plate on the car and he was arrested.

Graeme Brown, defending, told the court that compensation "was not realistic."

McGinley was banned from driving for six years as well as his jail term.
