Conor McGregor reacts to Anthony Joshua's defeat with another dig at Carl Froch

Conor McGregor praised Oleksandr Usyk for his win over Anthony Joshua last night - and took a pop at Carl Froch at the same time.

Usyk outpointed Joshua in their rematch in Saudi Arabia to retain his three heavyweight world titles and remain unbeaten. He will now target an undisputed showdown with Tyson Fury later this year, which will also likely be held in the Middle East.

And McGregor, who was active throughout a busy night of combat sports, took to social media to say: "Usyk is some boxer. And Froch is some w***er hahahaha..." McGregor had sparked a spat with former boxing world champion Froch hours earlier when he ranted about the Nottingham man on social media.

McGregor's outburst appeared to be in response to Froch claiming the former two-weight world champion lacks power in his punches. The Irishman tweeted: "That Froch tick, little scrawny pencil neck... I’ll grab his head and twist it clean off at a oner with my bare hands. Little wally of a thing. I’ll slap you around you little toffee nose tosspot."

Froch, who was in the Sky Sports studio in London as a pundit, replied by quoting McGregor's tweet, writing: "Who is this mouthy little pr*** talking to? I will drag you outside with that wispy beard and show you how the big boys do it!!"

Joshua, meanwhile, intends to fight again this year despite suffering the third devastating defeat of his professional career. “I spoke to Eddie [Hearn] and asked him if it’s possible to get out in November because momentum is important in boxing. Eddie said December,” Joshua said.

"If it’s about who I fight, it’s come one, come all. Whoever wants it can get it, I don’t mind."
