Nate Diaz and Jake Paul are set to clash in the boxing ring in August, barring either fighter pulling out of the bout. The former MMA fighter, who parted ways with the UFC in 2022, will look to add another defeat to Paul’s tally following the YouTube star’s recent loss against Tommy Fury.
And it appears Diaz has the backing of another renowned UFC star.
Speaking to Inside Fighting while out in public over the weekend, McGregor dropped a bold prediction for the fight.
“Nate Diaz slaps the head off [Jake Paul],” said McGregor. “And I look forward to seeing it.”
When asked if he’d be in attendance at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Aug. 5, McGregor indicated he’d probably “be on the Lamborghini just off the coast of Sicily.”
McGregor then held up three fingers when asked if Diaz should come back to the UFC for a trilogy bout against him.
Paul caught wind of McGregor’s comment and clapped back on Twitter, indicating he believes he’ll triumph where the Irishman fell short by successfully knocking out Diaz. Paul even went as far as challenging the 34-year-old McGregor to a boxing match after his fight against Diaz.
“Im a better boxer than you Connor and will do what you couldn’t and knock Nate out,” Paul wrote on Twitter. “After Nate let’s box as the co main event same night as Katie Taylor VS. Amanda Serrano in Dublin. But since you’re not your own boss you will hide behind Dana or just drink the rest of your life away. August 5th you will see.”
In Paul’s brief boxing career, he’s fought and defeated various former UFC stars, including Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva.
