Connor Goldson has given Rangers fans a positive update on his injury recovery, checking in at Ibrox ahead of his scheduled return - and without a moon boot on.
The big defender gave Michael Beale and co a headache when he was ruled out before the close of the season with an initial timeline of ten weeks given before the Light Blues saw off Hibs on May 21 at Easter Road. Goldson was said to be touch and go for the start of pre-season with an initial return at the end of July mooted, as he was spotted in a protective boot before the close of play last campaign. But now the 30-year-old, in a clip shared to Twitter, is shown striding in to Auchenhowie without any crutch. And it's got fans excited that one of Beale's key men could be right back in the mix in time well in time for the competitive action kicking off.
Rangers are in action in Champions League qualifying at the beginning of August, and while it is unclear if Goldson took part in a full training session, the former Brighton defender was with the likes of Ridvan Yilmaz and James Tavernier as they were snapped reporting for duty. New signing Jack Butland was also heard saying "Let's get to work" as he made his first foray in to the Milngavie centre.
Long-crocked Kemar Roofe, whose injury hell seemed to have no end in sight has also been spotted arriving at the facility. The London boss previously spoke of the difficulties the striker has faced with a damaged shoulder after making a brief, but crucial return to action in the Viaplay Cup semi-final against Aberdeen.
Beale will be hoping Goldson can add firepower to his defence that now has one new centre-half in Chelsea recruit Dujon Sterling. The English pairing could be a fresh partnership for the Ibrox boss to utilise come the new season.
Beale said on Goldson in May: “We’ve lost Connor and unfortunately that’s going to be for the next 10 weeks so we won’t see him until pre-season but it’s a big opportunity for Leon, playing alongside John Souttar as well, a Scottish centre half pairing with Robby behind him. Leon King has waited patiently.”
