Hull-based digital infrastructure specialist Connexin has acquired Pure Broadband - in a second city swoop in a week.
The undisclosed deal follows hot on the heels of the firm’s Wisper Broadband addition. It will see more than 15,000 new customers added, increasing its workforce to almost 150 people, making it one of the largest alternative network providers in the North.
Pure, led by managing director Tony Jopling since founding director Adrian Bolster became chairman last summer, is a 13-year-old national award-winning internet service provider.

Connexin was founded in 2006 by University of Hull graduate pals Furqan Alamgir and Alex Yeong. Two years ago it secured £80 million in backing from Whitelam Capital, and late last summer it revealed plans for its own network in its home city.

Describing the deal as “fast tracking the commitment to challenge KCom,” - the incumbent operator a result of the long-lasting public sector ownership legacy that differentiates Hull to the rest of the UK - the company said Pure customers will see no change to their service or billing, but will be able to “elevate their broadband experience to the next level” through the acquisition. Connexin said it has recently demonstrated speeds of over 2Gbps - the fastest home broadband speeds in the city.
Mr Jopling, who had previously served as chief operating officer of the Estuary Business Park business, said: “We’ve been operating in Hull since 2009 to bring the people of the region a greater choice in broadband, as well as helping to create a better online experience for all citizens. Pure is part of a roll-out programme across nine Yorkshire towns and cities with fibre network infrastructure provider City Fibre, while also using the KCom network to supply services.
The transaction was supported by corporate law firm Orrick, and finance and tax due diligence specialist RSM.
