Congressional GOP leaders have informed their members that they’ve reached a funding deal in principle, with staffers now working to finalize hundreds of pages of text. The deal involves nearly $100 billion in disaster aid and an additional $10 billion in banking relief for farmers in rural communities.
Additionally, the agreement includes a one-year extension of the farm bill, a provision benefiting biofuels, and two major health measures. One of the health measures extends telehealth flexibilities, while the other targets pharmacy benefit managers.
House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed his hope to release the details of the deal this afternoon. The timing of the House vote on the plan remains uncertain, but leaders from both parties are confident that they will be able to avoid a government shutdown by Friday.
