Conflicting reports on Morgan Gibbs-White transfer as Nottingham Forest 'pushing' for Wolves ace

There are conflicting reports over the future of Morgan Gibbs-White amid claims that Nottingham Forest are closing in on a deal for the Wolves attacking midfielder.

Steve Cooper had identified the 22-year-old as a key target in the current transfer market as he looks to build a squad capable of competing in the Premier League this season. Forest have been linked with the player all summer and it appears they may have made a breakthrough in negotiations.

According to BBC Sport’s Natalie Jackson, Gibbs-White is "on the verge" of signing for Forest with a deal "in the final stages". She adds that Forest hope to get the transfer over the line "in the next few days". However, the Express and Star are reporting that no deal is in place and that Gibbs-White trained with Wolves as usual today (Thursday), with Forest still "pushing" for the transfer.

Forest have faced competition for the signature of Gibbs-White this summer. Fellow Premier League sides Everton and Crystal Palace are also said to be interested in the player, while Wolves are apparently determined to keep hold of him. It was reported that the Midlands side would be looking for a fee of around £30million should they opt to cash in.

Both Cooper and Gibbs-White know each other well, having worked together on both domestic and international level. Gibbs-White was part of the England U17 team who lifted the World Cup under the now Forest boss. Cooper also signed Gibbs-White on loan when he was manager of Championship side Swansea City.

As it stands, Gibbs-White is still a Wolves player and could feature for the club in their opening Premier League clash against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.
