A bus passenger who lost a suitcase containing jewellery, clothes and medicines during a Delhi-Dehradun journey has been awarded Rs 43,000 in compensation after Uttarakhand State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission held Uttarakhand Transport Corporation responsible for the loss. The passenger had handed over his suitcase to the conductor for storage in the bus luggage compartment. The commission reduced compensation for missing belongings because their claimed value was not supported by bills or receipts, but retained awards for mental agony and litigation expenses.
