Condition one in 20 people suffer from but takes nearly five years to diagnose

A condition which around one in 20 people suffer with can take nearly five years to diagnose.

Symptoms of a thyroid condition can overlap with other conditions which is one of the reasons why it can take doctors so long to diagnose. Academics at the University of Aberdeen carried out a a study in collaboration with several leading thyroid charities.

They found it takes an average of four and half years for a thyroid condition to be diagnosed, reports ChronicleLive. The study looked at the experience of 1,200 patients and found on almost two thirds of cases it took multiple appointments and a worsening of the severity of symptoms before a diagnosis was made.
