Concerns ahead of Great Scottish Run as ScotRail confirms no extra trains

SCOTRAIL has confirmed it will be running no extra trains on the day of the Great Scottish Run, meaning anyone wishing to travel by rail is set to miss the 8.30am start of the race.

The Great Scottish Run will take place on Sunday, as more than 30,000 people are set to descend on the city centre.

The first trains into the centre arrive at 9am – half an hour after the start of the race – whilst many roads will be shut for the event.

Runners have expressed frustration that no additional trains will run, after extra trains were put on for both the Taylor Swift concerts in Edinburgh and The Open in Troon earlier in the year.

One told Glasgow Live: "It's the Great Scottish Run this Sunday with 30,000 runners descending on the city centre and there are currently NO train services before 9am, with the race starting at 8.30am.

"With road closures, many runners will not be able to make it in to the city centre without driving and parking some distance away and shocking response from ScotRail. They put on extra trains for Taylor Swift and the golf at Troon this year but 30,000 taking part in a race to raise money for charity get no such accommodations."

Phil Campbell, ScotRail customer operations director, said: "It’s fantastic to see such a popular event take place in Glasgow on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, on this occasion, we’re unable to provide additional services before the race begins.

“Customers are reminded that during this event, central Glasgow roads will be closed, and those travelling between stations should allow extra time for travel. Train services will be running after the event, with our full timetable back in operation from Monday, October 7.”
