Complainant turns out to be accused, hired men to kill businessman over borrowed money

THANE: A tax consultant from Thane was arrested along with an accomplice for hiring the henchmen and stabbing a 55-year-old businessman Satish Patil to death over a monetary dispute on Friday.

The accused have been identified as Bhushan Patil, 40, a resident of Rutu Enclave, and Nitin Patil.

It was late Saturday evening, Bhushan along with the deceased and one other person drove the car to a specific location near Anand nagar area of Ghodbunder road wherein two persons armed with the swords, came to the spot and brutally attacked Satish Patil and also attacked Bhushan with lesser gravity.

Later, Bhushan cooked a story that some unidentified assailants came to him and attacked repeatedly stabbing Satish until he fell unconscious in the pool of blood. The incident was reported to the Kasarwadavali police who rushed to the spot and carried out the panchnama.

Subsequently, Bhushan was made the complainant in the murder case and was questioned by the police from Kasarwadavali police station as well as sleuths from crime branch.

The police however, doubted the version of the Bhushan and the subsequent inconsistencies and disparity in his statement to the cops and the needle of suspicion went on him. “He tried to play smart but was unable to hold the guilt for a very long time,” said a police officer.

During the questioning, he broke down and confessed to the crime and told the police that the deceased had given him over Rs 1.5 crore on loan and was repeatedly asking for it. Hence he decided to eliminate him.

On Saturday evening, the accused initially told him to come along and the deceased went with him and the assailants were given a contract to kill him. Accordingly they executed the plan and cooked the story which he could not hold for long.

The police said they have launched a manhunt to nab the other accused.
