Two construction companies have been charged after a man was crushed under a Bobcat driven by a drunk colleague.
WorkSafe on Thursday charged HSG Developments Pty Ltd and HSG Asphalt Pty Ltd with failing to provide and maintain a safe workplace over the September 2022 death.
It is also alleged the companies failed to ensure people other than employees were not exposed to health and safety risks.
George Tereva, 34, was killed when Christopher Bell, 53, ran him over in a Bobcat on September 7, 2022.
Bell was drinking beers with Mr Tereva and two colleagues after work when he decided to jump behind the wheel of a Bobcat he had never driven before.
He started driving around in circles at the Melbourne worksite, repeatedly driving towards his three workmates, when he accelerated towards Mr Tereva and ran him over.
Mr Tereva was trapped under the machinery, suffering a deep cut to his calf and abrasions to his back and pelvis.
He was initially breathing and conscious but his condition quickly deteriorated and he died in hospital.
Bell left the scene before police arrived but returned an hour later and did a blood alcohol test that showed a reading of 0.1.
He pleaded guilty in the Victorian Supreme Court to the manslaughter of Mr Tereva and was sentenced to seven years behind bars in July.
He will be eligible for parole after four years.
HSG Developments Pty Ltd and HSG Asphalt Pty Ltd are due to face Melbourne Magistrates Court on September 2 for a filing hearing.
