Community in mourning as 'lovely gentleman' killed in horror Offaly crash named locally

Tributes have poured in after a former publican and well-known auctioneer was killed in a car crash on Monday.

Liam Kenny from Tullamore in Co Offaly died when the car he was driving collided with another vehicle on the N52 Bunaterin shortly after 10am.

The male driver, mid 30s, of the second vehicle received non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore for treatment.

Mr Kenny was described as a "well respected" man in the area and was the former proprietor of The Thatch pub located in Rahan, Co Offaly.

A funeral notice for Mr Kenny reads: "The death has occurred of Liam Kenny, Grand Canal House, Rahan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly, tragically & unexpectedly.

"Liam will be sadly missed by his heartbroken family, his devoted wife Margaret, his adoring children Ruth, Edel, Grace, Alana, Catherine & Liam Óg, sons-in-law Adrian, Davy, John, Paul & Aaron, his brothers Carthage & Joe, his sister Annie, his 10 adoring grandchildren Eve, Oliver, Tiernan, Fiadh, Cara, Ceola, Daisy, Charlie, Bobby & Louis, relatives, dear friends and neighbours."

Those who knew Mr Kenny offered their condolences to the family as they described him as a "lovely gentleman".

One person wrote: "So sorry for your loss Margaret and family. Also friends and neighbors .A lovely Gentleman on such a tragic accident . Man his soul rest in peace."

A second said: "Deepest sympathy to Margaret, Alana & Paul & all of the Kenny family on the untimely passing of your husband & dad Liam. May God comfort you in the days ahead. Rest in peace."

While a third said: "Our deepest condolences to The Kenny Family on the sad passing of Liam,May his gentle soul rest in peace."

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who were travelling in the area at this time and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Tullamore Garda Station on (057) 9327600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
