The Cincinnati Bengals have their franchise wideout: Ja’Marr Chase. Not even the Bengals could have expected him to have such a huge season in his first year, with Chase winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award and logging 81 catches for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns.
It was a huge season. Chase was one of the most dominant players at his position in the NFL, even in the postseason when he managed 93 yards per game and added a receiving touchdown in the AFC Championship. It’s wild to think what he can do over the course of his NFL career. So that got me thinking…
Can Chase eclipse the NFL’s best receiver, Cooper Kupp? Kupp is, without a doubt, the NFL’s most productive receiver (145 catches, 1,947 yards, 16 touchdowns) and was, arguably, the NFL’s best receiver this season. He is in his fifth year, however, and only had one season over 1,000 yards in his first four years. That could create an opportunity for Chase to make up ground quickly, considering he should have a healthy and dangerous Joe Burrow for the first five years of Chase’s career. It will be interesting to see which receiver ends up being considered the better player.
