Comedian Alan Carr announces split from husband after 13 years

Comedian Alan Carr and his husband Paul Drayton have announced their separation.

The TV host has been with his husband for 13 years now but announced the news via a joint statement, as reported by The Mirror.

In a statement to the PA news agency, a spokesperson on behalf of the couple explained: "After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating.

"They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways.

"We request that their privacy is respected at this sensitive time."

After meeting in 2008, Alan and Paul got married 10 years later in 2018 in a small private ceremony in America.

The wedding was officiated by singer Adele.

Speaking about Adele's part in the wedding at the time, Alan said on The One Show: "So she did everything, and she got ordained, and she married us.

"We've known her for ages and when we told her we were getting married, she said, 'Can I please plan the whole day for you?' So she organised everything. She's the kindest, sweetest, most generous person ever."

Adele later shared a photo from the big day to her Instagram page, writing: "Seeing as the cats out the bag. I married two of my best friends in January. You know me any excuse to dress up... @chattyman #LoveisLove"

Their split comes after a tough 2021 for the couple, with Paul struggling in his battle against alcohol addiction.

Last month, it was revealed Paul was set to have holes drilled in his skull as he underwent a life-saving operation.

The 50-year-old took to Instagram in December to reveal details of the emergency surgery, and told his followers he would be ‘offline for a while’ as he recovers.

The health update came just months after the couple confirmed Paul had fallen off the wagon in his journey to sobriety during the summer.
