If the Raiders want to win another road game in Week 17, they are going to lean on their defense to keep this one competitive. That means they will need another huge performance by Maxx Crosby, who is in the running for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
Unfortunately, his job just got a whole lot harder as Braden Smith, the starter at right tackle for the Colts, is expected to return after a multi-week absence. Smith is one of the top right tackles in all of the NFL and has been excellent at stonewalling pass rushers.
Here is what Seth Walder from ESPN had to say about the Smith vs. Crosby matchup heading into Week 17:
(Smith) is returning from injury and immediately has to protect Gardner Minshew from Maxx Crosby. Smith’s 90% pass block win rate this season is a bit above average.
Blake Freeland has been the starting right tackle for the majority of the season for the Colts and he’s been their weakest link. But the return of Smith should make this unit much better. This should be a fantastic battle to watch on Sunday afternoon between two of the best players at their respective positions.
