Indianapolis Colts fans may have been shocked to see the team nearly take on an incredible upset loss against the Houston Texans, but what they’re not surprised with is how dominant running back Jonathan Taylor was.
Taylor picked up right where he left off the 2021 campaign as the league’s best running back. He took 31 carries for 161 rushing yards and a touchdown while adding four receptions for 14 receiving yards in the 20-20 tie.
The performance landed him a nomination for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week. Here are the other names on the list
- Jonathan Taylor: 31 carries, 161 yards, one touchdown
- D’Andre Swift: 15 carries, 144 yards, one touchdown
- Nick Chubb: 22 carries, 141 yards
It’s a bit odd that Saquon Barkley isn’t on the list considering he led the league with 164 rushing yards in Week 1. However, Taylor’s performance was to be expected.
He had six runs that went at least 10 yards, and his long on the day was 17 yards. That tells us the majority of his rushes were between 5-10 yards.
Though the Colts didn’t come away with the win, Taylor is well on his way to competing for the rushing title for the second year in a row.
