Colts’ Isaiah Rodgers Could Face Lifetime Ban From NFL, per Report

The NFL reportedly is investigating Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers for violating its gambling policy, and the fourth-year cornerback could be in for a very serious punishment.

Pro Football Talk reports Rodgers is facing a potential lifetime ban from the NFL. Commissioner Roger Goodell has “unilateral authority” over all gambling-related cases, and the league’s gambling policy gives him the right to kick Rodgers out of the league.

“Disciplinary action may include, without limitation, severe penalties up to and including a fine, termination of employment and/or banishment from the NFL for life,” the policy states, via Pro Football Talk.

Rodgers placed “hundreds” of bets, primarily in the $25-50 range, according to multiple reports.

The NFL has cracked down on gambling within the league in recent years, but no player has been suspended for life yet. Three players were suspended indefinitely in May, while wide receiver Calvin Ridley missed all of last season before getting reinstated this offseason.

Rodgers released a statement taking responsibility for his actions but seemed to imply he believes he will play again in the league.

“I’ve let people down that I care about. I made an error [in] judgment, and I am going to work hard to make sure that those mistakes are rectified through this process,” he said. “It’s an honor to play in the NFL, and I have never taken that lightly.”

The NFL has yet to address the situation, as the investigation remains ongoing, but anything could be on the table.
