Colts announce two DL additions to practice squad

The Indianapolis Colts announced the additions of defensive tackle Josiah Bronson and defensive end Derek Rivers to the practice squad.

Rivers was with the Colts for the latter half of training camp this summer. He was a third-round pick by New England in 2017, playing 336 career defensive snaps and 119 on special teams.

His last snaps during the regular season came in 2021 with the Houston Texans. Rivers has recorded 14 pressures and four sacks in his 210 pass rush snaps, according to PFF, along with 27 combined tackles, including five for a loss.

Rivers played 34 snaps for the Colts over their final two preseason games. He was released during roster cutdowns.

Bronson went undrafted in 2021 out of Washington and has spent time with New Orleans, Cleveland, and Miami. He’s played 168 career defensive snaps, 163 of which came in 2021. He recorded 11 tackles and three pressures that season.

The depth along the defensive line for the Colts is being tested a bit right now. DeForest Buckner was placed on injured reserve last week and has to miss at least the next three games. Kwity Paye would then exit Sunday’s game against Chicago late. As of Monday, head coach Shane Steichen did not have any updates.

Along the defensive line, the Colts also have Titus Leo and Adam Gotsis on the practice squad.

To make room on the practice squad for Bronson and Rivers, the Colts placed quarterback Jason Bean on practice squad IR and released cornerback Kelvin Joseph.
