Colts announce they claimed safety on waivers from Arizona

With the Indianapolis Colts announcing that they’ve placed center Ryan Kelly on injured reserve, the corresponding move to fill Kelly’s roster spot was claiming safety Darren Hall on waivers.

The Arizona Cardinals waived Hall on Monday.

Hall is a former fourth-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2021 NFL draft out of San Diego State. Over his career, Hall has appeared in 35 games, which includes playing 923 defensive snaps, with 633 coming in 2022.

The Colts have Hall listed as a safety, but the bulk of his defensive snaps–602 to be exact–have come at cornerback. He’s also spent 220 snaps in the slot. In coverage, he’s allowed 58 completions on 77 targets at 11.4 yards per catch with three pass breakups.

Hall has also played 196 special teams snaps in his career as well, mostly on the kick coverage and punt return units. Special teams will likely be where his playing time with the Colts will come from.

This season specifically with Arizona, Hall has appeared in four games, playing mostly special teams, with seven defensive snaps. He’s made one tackle playing across three different special teams phases this season.

Hall joins a Colts’ safety room featuring Nick Cross and Julian Blackmon as the starters, with Ronnie Harrison and Rodney Thomas on the 53-man roster as depth.
