Recently, prosecutors in Medellín, Colombia, revealed a disturbing case involving a Colombian school bus driver who allegedly abducted a 7-year-old girl and kept her captive for more than ten years until her escape earlier this year.
The suspect, identified as Carlos Humberto Grisales Higuita, is facing multiple charges including simple kidnapping, sexual abuse, sexual acts, and pornography involving a minor under 14 years of age.
According to prosecutors, the man reportedly took the young girl to a house in the city center in early 2012, where he psychologically manipulated and sexually assaulted her, leading her to believe such behavior was normal.
During her captivity, the victim's identity was altered, she was moved to different locations in Medellín and Bello, and she was prevented from attending school.
When the girl turned 16, she confronted the alleged perpetrator about her treatment, resulting in her being locked up in a house. Fortunately, she managed to escape in February of this year.
Remarkably, the victim had been reported missing twelve years ago, shedding light on the prolonged nature of her ordeal.
Following his arrest by the National Police in Medellín, Grisales Higuita has remained in custody. Despite the charges brought against him by the Prosecutor's Office, he has not admitted to any wrongdoing during the preliminary hearings.
This harrowing case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and protection of vulnerable individuals, particularly children, within our communities.
