Coles is recalling packets of baby spinach sold in supermarkets across three regions due to potential salmonella contamination.
The 60g, 120g and 280g packets had been available for sale since April 4.
They were sold in Coles supermarkets, Coles Local and through Coles online in Queensland, the ACT and NSW — but not including stores in Lavington, Deniliquin and Albury.
Government agency Food Standards Australia and New Zealand says the recall is due to potential salmonella contamination.
"Consumers should not eat this product and should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund," the agency says.
The affected packets have various use by date markings:
- 60g: 13 APR 22
- 120g: 13 APR 22 and 14 APR 22
- 280g: 13 APR 22 and 14 APR 22
What if it's already been eaten?
Food Standards says if you're concerned about your health, you should seek medical advice.
Here's a list of salmonella poisoning symptoms to watch out for:
- fever
- headache
- diarrhoea
- abdominal pain
- nausea
- vomiting
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning usually start between six and 72 hours after the contaminated food is eaten.
They usually last for between four and seven days.
NSW Health says symptoms can be more severe for young babies, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
In those severe cases, some people need to be hospitalised to treat dehydration.
