Coimbatore police introduce e-beat system for better patrolling

COIMBATORE: City police commissioner V Balakrishnan on Friday introduced e-beat system to improve patrolling, monitor the cops on beat and find out their real time location.

Till now, police officers were required to sign ‘patta books’ with date and time to confirm patrolling in their allocated beat. And it was the duty of senior police officials to audit the patta books at regular intervals. Now, the e-beat system would replace this old method.

A senior police official said the city police personnel were advised to download ‘Coimbatore City E-Beat’ mobile app from the Google Play Store. “Station house officers are advised to identify the locations in their jurisdictions and mark them on the app. Beat police officers will have to take selfies with the app from such places. The app will access the location with time and date. This will help prevent beat officers from skipping their duty.”

The e-beat system is expected to facilitate better policing.
