Coastguard, police and fire crews rush to County Durham beach to rescue injured person

An injured person was rescued by the coastguard, police, and fire crews from a beach in County Durham in the early hours of the morning.

Hartlepool RNLI volunteers were called at 1.19am on Monday by Humber Coastguard to assist the coastguard, police and fire crews to recover an injured person from the beach at Easington Colliery.

They launched an inshore lifeboat at 1.37am followed by the all-weather lifeboat which launched at 1.41am. The inshore lifeboat was on scene at 1.50am and the all-weather lifeboat arrived on scene at 1.55am.

The inshore lifeboat crew recovered the injured person and a Hazardous Area Response Team member from the beach and transferred them to the all-weather lifeboat which returned to the Ferry Road lifeboat station at 2.30am. There, paramedics were waiting to deal with the casualty who was then taken to hospital.

Hartlepool RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Chris Hornsey said: "A quick response from our volunteer crewmembers who train regularly for incidents such as this and good team work with the coastguard, fire brigade and police brought the incident to a safe ending. We hope the casualty makes a quick recovery."

Hartlepool RNLI Coxswain Robbie Maiden said: "Great teamwork from my volunteer crew working alongside the other agencies quickly brought the incident to a safe conclusion and on behalf of all the crew here we hope the casualty makes a quick recovery."
