South Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee has approved a housing development in Lesmahagow.
Councillors at the committee meeting on Tuesday, August 16, approved plans to develop 26 homes and an access road at Brocketsbrae Road.
The development will have a variety of six different house types ranging from two, three and four bedrooms.
During neighbourhood consultation, five letters of objection were submitted, relating to traffic in the area during construction. There’s currently 34 surrounding homes.
To counter this concern, conditions were placed to ensure a traffic management plan during construction as well as imposing parking measures.
Councillor Alex Allison requested for local input in plans.
He said: “In the conditions, there is an expectation of affordable housing, play parks and to a lesser extent, a contribution to education.
"Can I have an assurance that the local members will be involved in how these conditions are taken forward?
“Where Brocketsbrae is, there’s no services, I don’t even think there’s a path into Lesmahagow.
"Residents would have to walk on the road and rural transport isn’t adequate, I think there should be local opinions on how these conditions are materialised.”
These points were noted by council officers who recommended approval of the development.
