Clyde exit explained as star reveals 'seven or eight' offers after Bully Wee departure

Ally Love found it tough to leave Clyde despite a multitude of offers - but Dumbarton sold him on a move within 10 minutes.

The forward joined the Bully Wee in 2018 from Brechin City and helped them achieve promotion to League One in 2019, where they still remain.

Boss Danny Lennon though opted to go another way at the end of the 2021/22 season and Love was released at the end of his deal.

Contract proposals came quick and fast but it was Dumbarton - who Clyde finished above in the third tier to survive - who appeared most attractive.

There were chances to stay in League One, but the former St Mirren youngster says it was an easy decision to decide where he went next.

He said: "It came quite quickly. My phone was red hot from when I left Clyde. I wanted to get it done quickly. I’m not someone who would wait to hold out for a deal.

"I spoke to seven or eight different teams; from League One, League Two, the Lowland League and some of the ambitious teams aiming to get into the Lowland League.

"I went and met the gaffer. I’d spoken to them for the past two or three seasons and I liked the vibe I got from them. They sold the club to me in the space of 10 minutes."

An exit from Cumbernauld was hard to stomach for Love, who has plenty of admiration remaining for Lennon and the rest of the Lanarkshire club.

The attacker added to our sister site, the Lennox Herald: "Leaving Clyde was tough. I built up some incredible relationships with the chairman, the board, the manager, assistant and the fans.

"I got a lot of lovely messages from the fans when I left, and I had a lot of good times there.

"The manager wanted to go in a different direction. It was an honour to captain the club and keep them in League One after getting promoted. When I first went in they were second bottom of League Two.

"Our first objective was to get a real togetherness in the changing room and then put a team on the park that the fans could be proud of.

"It was a sore one, but the manager had a good chat with me and wanted to go in a different direction. I wished him all the best, but now my priority is getting Dumbarton back to where they should be."
