Clyde boss hails Bully Wee after 'rollercoaster' League One safety secured

Clyde boss Danny Lennon hailed a collective Bully Wee effort after a 2-1 League One win over promotion-chasing Montrose secured their survival.

Michael Gardyne opened the scoring for Stewart Petrie’s men at Broadwood but Lennon’s side hit back before half-time through Lewis Jamieson and Nicholas McAllister goals.

It leaves them seventh and eight points above Dumbarton, who occupy the relegation play-off spot, with two games to go this season.

The former St Mirren boss will lead his side into a Lanarkshire derby with Airdrie at home this weekend before wrapping up the term away to Dumbarton, with fifth still a possibility.

While acknowledging the magnitude of winning against Montrose, the 53-year-old says results over the course of an entire season have brought about Clyde ‘s safety.

He said: “I am delighted for everybody associated with the football club, none more so than the fans. They follow us through thick and thin. It’s been a rollercoaster of a season at times.

“There’s been some excellent performances It is a pleasure to serve the fans and we will hopefully make a better push for those (promotion) play-offs next season. We will look to recruit in the summer.

“Over the course of the season, the players have given us everything and they can pick themselves up very quickly. We lost a goal and to show the character to get ahead was great.

“We knew Montrose would be at it in the second half but we showed another great side to our game - some players covered every blade of grass.”

Lennon added: “Overall, it wasn’t just down to this one game.

“It gets you over the line but it’s results over the season, Everybody’s made a big push to achieve what we have.”
