Clyde boss alarmed by form slump as he questions his experienced players

Danny Lennon admits he is alarmed by Clyde's recent slump in form and feels let down by some of the squad's more senior players.

A 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Lanarkshire rivals Airdrie on Saturday inflicted a fourth defeat on the spin for the Bully Wee and they have now conceded 13 goals in that spell, leaving them eighth in League One and three points off the bottom of the table.

Having started the season strongly with seven points from nine, their latest recents have been an early blow to their promotion push and with the likes of experienced captain Brian McLean, ex-Hibs defender Steven Thicot and former Falkirk right-back Peter Grant among the defence Lennon has been shocked by the goals his side are conceding.

He said: "It's very concerning at the moment. We are hurt and emotions are all over the place right now.

"I don't think anybody in the stadium saw that coming to five goals.

"There comes a point, even at 3-0, when you have to say we maybe aren't going to get back in the game and it has to be damage limitation.

"After 66 minutes I don't feel, as a group, we played as a team.

"I thought certain individuals did work hard throughout the game.

"But it is alarming.

"We've got experience at the back that should be able to handle this.

"The soft goals that we are conceding are concerning."

Clyde take a break from league business this Saturday to face Welsh Premier side Caernarfon Town in the third round of the SPFL Trust Trophy.

Asked if the cup is a welcome distraction, Lennon said: "No. I would play again tomorrow [in the league] to get it out of our system.

"I don't want to sound like I'm playing a harp here and talking about how well we did up to the 66th minute, but we were.

"I didn't think we competed as a team after 66 minutes."
