Clement refuses to be drawn on Shankland transfer amid Tavernier Rangers question

Philippe Clement refused to be drawn on reported transfer interest in Lawrence Shankland as he insisted he "doesn't see a situation" surrounding James Tavernier.

The Ibrox boss was pressed on summer transfer business following the 4-4 draw with Union Berlin in pre-season on Saturday.

Clement faced questions on links with Hearts striker Shankland, who has been linked with Rangers in previous windows, and any departures from the club.

But the Belgian manager refused to get into any discussion over possible transfer interest in Shankland.

He said: "I don’t go into rumours and I will not speak about players of teams we are going to play against."

Clement had previously admitted Todd Cantwell had submitted a transfer request this summer, but the manager has confirmed no other player has discussed a summer exit.

He said: "No, nobody else came to be [aside from Todd Cantwell] saying they wanted to leave.

Rangers captain Tavernier has been at the centre of transfer speculation this summer with a move to Trabzonspor rumoured. Borna Barisic and John Lundstram both joined the club from Rangers this summer as free transfers.

In recent weeks, it has been claimed negotiations over a move for Tavernier to head to Turkiye have been ongoing but Clement has stated he expects the player to remain in Glasgow.

"I don’t see a situation," said Clement of Tavernier. "I told you guys, Todd is the only one who came to my office and said he wanted to leave - that’s it.

"I don’t know, there is maybe interest in a lot of players, I don’t know. He is a player for Rangers and is playing for Rangers. As long as players don’t say they want to leave, [they are] Rangers players.

"I think for every player who was here or in training, who is not saying they want to leave [that they will be at club for upcoming season]. So we will see."
