Cleland kids getting ready for first gala day in more than 30 years

A North Lanarkshire village is preparing to get the flags and bunting out, as it is set to have its first gala day in more than three decades.

Cleland kids can’t wait for this year’s gala day, which will be held on Saturday, August 27.

And the village’s gala committee will breathe a huge sigh of relief - considering the long-awaited gala had been due to take place in 2020.

Gala committee member Lisa Kane said: “It has been a long time coming!

“A few of us got together a number of years ago and said that we should try and get the gala back up and running.

“We did a few fundraisers and we were ready to go back in 2020 and then we all know what happened.

“Considering we have had to wait 30 years, what’s another couple?”

On the day there will be a whole host of activities for the whole family to enjoy including fairground rides, inflatables, stalls, live bands, a DJ, beer tent, food trunk and much more.

The final fundraiser for the big day, a family fun night at St Mary’s Chapel Hall on August 13, is already sold out.

Lisa added: “Everyone is really excited because we haven’t had one in so many years.

“We’ve had so much support from everyone and we just hope everything goes well on the day.”

Cleland Gala Day will be held in the village's public park.
