A clear day might seem like a great time to get ahead on your outdoor cleaning to-do list, but there's one job you should avoid doing when the sun's out in full force.

Whilst window cleaning certainly isn't something on your daily cleaning habits list, it is a chore that makes all the difference when it's done regularly in your home. Keeping your windows clean can even help brighten up a dark room in your house, so when is the best time to tackle the job and why?

With the current sunny weather, similar to cleaning your car, you may be assuming that this is the best time to get your windows sparkling again. However, Queen of Clean, Lynsey Crombie, is here to tell you that couldn't be further from the truth.

It's not the first time Lynsey has blessed us with some window cleaning knowledge; recently, she shared her clever trick for making cleaning window tracks easier than ever. This time, though, she's debunked the myth about when the best time to clean your windows is.

"I thought today we'd bust some cleaning myths at home," starts Lynsey.

"Myth number three, you should always clean your glass on your windows on a sunny day. Well, that is completely wrong," she continues.

"You want to clean your windows on the dullest, most miserable day possible, but preferably when it's not raining like it is today," adds Lynsey.

Whether you're cleaning with white vinegar or have a specialised window spray, you may have noticed just how easy it is to leave those stubborn streaks or wipe marks on your glass.

"Reason being as soon as the product hits the glass, it's going to dry, it's going to cause those streaks, and that is caused by the sun. So stick to those dull days and a good lint-free window cleaning cloth," Lynsey explains.

Instead, take advantage of the nice weather to get your summer gardening jobs done, and leave the windows for a gloomy, overcast day. That way you won't be left buffing out marks.

Window tracks are one of the hidden spots in your home you should be cleaning before the hot weather arrives. As we naturally open up our windows more than ever during the summer, the last thing you want to see is heaps of grime covering your window tracks.
