Cleaner reveals if you should tidy up before they arrive - or why not to bother

The owner of a cleaning company has weighed in on a common debate - whether you should tidy up before they arrive or not.

If you have a cleaner, you might think to give your home a quick square up of any clutter before they come over to work their magic. But some people may believe that this is part of their job and decide not to do it.

It's a topic on which people have a lot of differing opinions, but one expert has shared her thoughts on when you should be doing this and when you shouldn't.

The Mirror reports that Kacie, who runs The Big Clean Co in Melbourne, Australia, said "I don't think it's normal" when people clean up before she arrives.

However, it all depends on the client's budget and what they're willing to pay the cleaner for their work.

Kacie spoke about the topic on Instagram, saying: "I don't think it's normal, I think it depends entirely on your budget and what you want to pay for.

"For some people, they don't have it in their budget and don't want to pay for the cleaner to do last night's dishes and pick their kid's s**t up off the floor.

"But other people might have a higher budget or different priorities - they just leave it and walk out the house and they come home later and their house is going to be sparkling."

The post sparked debate on social media, with the comments soon flooding in from people offering their own opinions.

One said: "Yes! Budget for me. I don't clean before the cleaner comes though. I look it as tidying before the cleaner comes so the cleaner can clean effectively - clear floors, clothes in cupboards, dishes etc."

And another commented: "I would clean up before the cleaner comes in."

And a third wrote: "I don't clean as such before our lovely cleaner comes - I tidy. I put things away and clear surfaces so she can clean."

Kacie has also divided the internet in the past by sharing her top "non-negotiable" cleaning tasks that you should be doing daily.

These included mopping and vacuuming, washing all the dishes and wiping down countertops.

But her post on TikTok soon received some negative comments, as one said: "Hard pass lol, I admire that who do, but I have different priorities."

And someone else commented: "This is great and I love it, but this isn't realistic for some of us."
