Claudio Ranieri has made an emotional return to Cagliari, the club where he made his name as a manager over 30 years ago.
Ranieri, 71, who has signed a deal until June 30, 2025, managed the Sardinian side between 1988 and 1991 and took them from Italy’s Serie C1 to Serie A.
“I’m going back to Cagliari: I’ve always known it, I declared it even then, at the time of my departure,” Ranieri told the club website. "Cagliari made me understand that maybe I could make it in my job, I had found all the elements that helped me in those three years: fans, players, managers, we were all one.
