Claudia Winkleman's new BBC show branded as 'dark and brutal'

Claudia Winkleman's new BBC show, The Traitors, has been branded as "brutal" ahead of tonight's launch.

She joined the This Morning couch where she was told off by Phillip Schofield for keeping him up all night. After receiving a private link to enjoy the show, he found himself binge-watching the series into the late hours.

Phillip complimented Claudia for showing off a "darker" side he'd never seen before as he called the new competition series shocking and addictive.

The Traitors welcomes 22 strangers to a stunning castle in the Scottish highlands where they are faced with the "ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust". At the beginning of the show, Claudia decides, in secret, who the traitors are and tasks them with murdering the remaining guests without being discovered.

Each night the group will reconvene to "banish" who they believe are traitors. The series finale will see £120,000 shared out equally between the innocent guests but if a traitor is still in the midst, they will receive the entire prize for themselves.

Claudia said "the whole thing is brutal" as she confirmed the show only gets more difficult as time goes on. Phillip added: "They have to do something quite brutal at the beginning which is a shock. I've never seen anything quite like it before."

She then likened the show to I'm a Celebrity in the sense the guests are faced with harrowing challenges that some viewers may not be prepared to see. Without going into further detail about what to expect, she simply said "brace yourselves."

The Traitors airs tonight at 9:30 pm on BBC 1.
