'Classless' - Brother of Newcastle United target hits out at Manchester United as summer exit closes in

The brother of Jesse Lingard has hit out at Manchester United after he was not given a farewell in what could’ve been his last match in a red shirt at Old Trafford. Lingard was an unused substitute in the Red Devils’ 3-0 win over Brentford, which meant he was unable to receive a send off from supporters.

The likes of Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic and Phil Jones – who have all been at the club for less time than Lingard – were all handed minutes on the pitch on Monday in order to receive an ovation from the Old Trafford crowd. Lingard is out of contract in the summer at Man United and it appears as apparent as ever that he won’t be extending his stay at the club, despite the arrival of Erik ten Hag as the new manager.

The 29-year-old was linked with a loan move to Newcastle United in the January window and the Magpies could return for him in the summer with their Premier League status all but mathematically secure. And with his exit looking ever more likely, Lingard’s brother took to Instagram to express his dismay at the lack of send-off he received.

He said: “20 years of blood, sweat and tears, four domestic trophies, three cup final goals. Not even a farewell. No wonder it’s Conference League next year.

“Attacking players for celebrations when the club’s being sold to the Super League, OK. Class of 92, Busby babes, you’re ran by people who don’t even know the offside trap.

“Classless and the fans need to realise. Goodnight, God bless, ta-ra! Been there since nine years of age and didn’t even get a send-off!!! Well done bro, your family are proud.”

Newcastle are the 2/1 favourites to sign Lingard this summer with Betfair.
