Christian Ramirez has opened up on his final months as an Aberdeen player as he marked his debut in MLS with a double in a 6-1 win.
The American striker moved back stateside in the January transfer window after falling out of favour with now departed manager Jim Goodwin. Ramirez, who joined the Dons from Houston Dynamo in the summer of 2021, bagged a double on his first appearance for Columbus Crew in the win over Atlanta United.
Since signing for the MLS outfit he has been on the treatment and was only able to make his debut until Saturday evening. Ramirez, who was a firm favourite among the Red Army, revealed his frustration at his last couple of months in the Granite City saying he "continued to have belief" and worked hard. The arrival of North Macedonian striker Bojan Miovski last summer at Pittodrie moved Ramirez down the pecking order who scored 18 goals in 60 appearance for Aberdeen.
Ramirez scored in the 47th and 64th minutes before being taken off by head coach Wilfried Nancy in the Eastern Conference clash with Atlanta. Following the match, he said: "For anyone who’s followed my journey, the last 10 months have been really frustrating for myself and the situation that I was in.
"But I continued to have belief in myself and continued to work hard. Then I was blessed with this opportunity and had a random injury that was really frustrating the last month."
