Chelsea and America star Christian Pulisic has sent a warning to England ahead of this Winter's World Cup by stating how confident he is in the United State Men's National Team heading into the Qatar tournament.
America have been drawn in the same group as England, as they were 12 years ago in South Africa, with Wales and Iran also set to battle in Group B. Gareth Southgate's England will face the United States in their second game, with England coming into the tournament on the back of a number of disappointing performances.
The United States, meanwhile, will look to make a statement in this year's tournament after embarrassingly missing out in 2018 after losing their spot in a qualifier against Trinidad & Tobago.
Ahead of the tournament, which is set to begin next month, Pulisic has spoken on what he believes the USMNT can achieve in a warning to England.
Speaking on the GQ interview, Pulisic said: "Listen, I don't know what the odds are or any of that kind of stuff. We're going in there with the goal of winning the World Cup. We're going in there with the mentality to win. Maybe we don't have the highest odds and we're by no means favourites, but we're gonna go in there and give everything we got and hopefully make some Americans proud."
Pulisic has only made two starts for Chelsea this season, and will be hoping to up his playing time over the next few weeks in preparation for the tournament.
But new Chelsea head coach Graham Potter seems unwilling to give in to the demands of 'Captain America', as he warned this week he will name his teams on merit rather than because of their World Cup hopes.
Potter said: "You can imagine my focus is on Chelsea. I understand that all the players have ambition and want to play for different reasons, for their families, careers or World Cups. ''That's all fine but it's my job to select the right team for whatever game. [I'm] not saying I am right all the time, I am not, but somebody has got to make the call."
Pulisic is expected to be named captain of USMNT, with the 24-year-old being the national team's current active top goal-scorer with 21 in 52 appearances.
