Christian Pulisic reveals stance on Chelsea future as USMNT star tipped for Newcastle transfer

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has struggled for consistent minutes this season at Chelsea, but this week has seen the USMNT star declare himself 'extremely happy' at Stamford Bridge as he releases a new book.

The 24-year-old was handed a start by Graham Potter in Chelsea's win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend but was overlooked in the Blues manager's starting line-up for the Champions League tie at AC Milan. Chelsea ran out 2-0 winners in the Italian capital with Pulisic an unused substitute.

But the former Borussia Dortmund player knows competition for places in Chelsea's attacking line is stiff and declared himself content with life at Stamford Bridge with the 2022 World Cup just around the corner.

Here is a round-up of the latest news surrounding Pulisic...

Pulisic 'extremely happy' at Chelsea

In a video released by GQ, Pulisic was reminded of a video posted in April 2020 in which he was wearing a Borussia Dortmund shirt while recording with his dog. At the time it was a cause of worry for Chelsea fans who may have believed that his heart lay elsewhere but he has put those rumours to rest.

He said in the video: "I made a TikTok with my dog not thinking much of it, just wearing my, you know, my former team's training shirt that I still had." He added. "Yeah, it's funny. It doesn't mean anything really. I'm still extremely happy with the team I'm on now. So I'm happy."

He also spoke about his World Cup hopes and the prospect of facing Chelsea teammates for his country when the USMNT face England on November 25.

He said: "That's gonna be a huge game. I'm really looking forward to it. I've played against England before and played against these guys already. So your relationship off the pitch never changes 'cause we're all good friends and we're close, but at the end of the day, once the whistle blows, you're on the field and you're just competing so you kind of forget about it. It's gonna be a good time for sure."

New book released

Pulisic has recounted his youth and a spell spent in England as a youngster in a new book: 'Pulisic: My Journey So Far'. It was released on October 11 and is a collection of long-form conversations between Pulisic and ghost writer Daniel Melamud.

He recounts his youth and speaks about mental health struggles at points during his career, with particular reflection on the time when Frank Lampard was replaced at Stamford Bridge by Thomas Tuchel. This took place in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and is a period which he describes as 'rock bottom'.

He explains: "I was battling depression, and it was a very tough period that saw me probably hit rock bottom,". This also leads into revelations about Tuchel's man-management, a reason cited in the German's sacking last month.

He explains how he was promised a starting role against Real Madrid in the 2021 Champions League semi-final over Kai Havertz before his former Dortmund boss reneged on his promise. "What happened before that game was hugely disappointing for me," he said.

"I would say he's very intense," Pulisic revealed about Tuchel's management. "He wants things a certain way, and he'll let you know if it's not the way."

Potter explains Pulisic plan

Speaking after Pulisic made his first start under Potter against Wolves, the Chelsea boss said he plans to use Pulisic on the left-hand side of attack.

“It’s understandable [he was nervous], he’s a human being. He wants to play, wants to help. It’s about how you put the players on the pitch so it suits them. The role for Christian was a good one for him. It was high wide left, he could attack the back line, and it was nice for him to score.”

Newcastle transfer backed

Pulisic would 'benefit' from moving to a club like Newcastle United where he could 'play week in, week out', according to former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell.

Newcastle have been linked with a move for Pulisic and Campbell told Football Insider: “I like Pulisic. He is a very good player. It has not worked out for him at Chelsea. He normally just comes off the bench. As an international, he wants to start games. He will feel he deserves to start games.

“I think he would benefit from a move to a club where he can play week in, week out. He needs to build himself back up. Could Newcastle offer him that? I think they could. Newcastle need players who can take them to the next level. Allan Saint-Maximin is unplayable on his day, but he is not always available. The best ability is availability. Saint-Maximin is just not available enough.”
