Chris Martin seemingly confirms breakup with Dakota Johnson during a car ride with fan

Chris Martin has seemingly revealed that he has split from longterm girlfriend Dakota Johnson and is now "single", according to one fan.

The Coldplay singer surprised Saundra Glenn by giving her a lift to Radio 1's Big Weekend as she was struggling to make her way to the festival’s accessibility box office due to osteoarthritis and issues with her hip, knee, and ankle.

Martin made the 64-year-old Luton resident's experience unforgettable by inviting her in his car for the ride.

Sharing the interaction on X, Glenn wrote that the superstar is single, suggesting that he and actress Johnson had called it quits.

“That moment when Chris Martin @Coldplay saw me struggling to walk, had his car stop and gave me a lift. Blooming amazing. Can’t believe this happened. What a decent bloke.

“We had a nice chat too. He is single and likes #Luton. Thx again @BBCR1. #BigWeekend #SeeMyLuton.”

The Evening Standard has approached Martin's team for comment.

Martin and the 50 Shades of Grey star have been romantically linked since 2017 and are said to share a home in Los Angeles.

While the fan's declaration that the singer is single has not been confirmed by Martin or Johnson, the news still sent fans into a frenzy and resulted in the rumour spreading online.

The moment between Martin and Glenn happened when she was heading to the venue and rested against a fence as she was struggling to walk, when a black Mercedes people carrier pulled up beside her.

A woman in the front seat offered her a ride, and Glenn was left stunned when Martin himself was in the backseat.

"The back door glided back and Chris Martin was in the backseat," she told PA news agency. "I looked at him and said (to the woman in the passenger seat) 'I can’t get in, that’s Chris Martin.' He goes: 'Yes you can, just come on in.'

Once in the car, Glenn and the Coldplay star chatted about a string of topics, including her community work in Luton.

"He said, 'It’s lovely to hear about what you do’," she revealed.

"I said I’m 65 this summer, he said, 'You don’t look it' and not to worry about age and just to keep doing what I’m doing. He seems like a totally decent human being and I told him that… I said 'You’re just a very nice person.'"

The pair took many selfies and Martin even told her about a surprise he had planned for his set that evening.

His band was going to perform a new song called Orange in tribute to Luton Town FC after a campaign by Luton fans to change the lyrics from Yellow to Orange. The band played a whole new song celebrating the local club.

"He told me he’s going to do something special at the end. I said, 'Go on are you changing yellow to orange?' He said, 'I can’t tell you that, but I can say, wait until the end. I’m doing something special, and that was special’."

Martin directed staff to take Glenn in a buggy all the way to the accessible area.

"They didn’t leave me until I had my wristband on. That’s how dedicated they were," she added. "I got onto the stage area where you can sit and I saw Chris’s set. It was a fantastic experience last night, it’s the best thing I’ve done in a long, long time."

She added: "He’s shown that kindness rules the world. Be more Chris Martin. Be more that humble guy that doesn’t mind picking up an OAP – albeit a good-looking, young-looking OAP – and giving her a ride to help her out."
