Chris Eubank 'knocked off his feet' by his own cooking skills for MasterChef

Boxing legend Chris Eubank has his eye on the Celebrity Master-Chef title and pulls no punches when he’s talking about making mincemeat of his opponents.

With his typical (lack of) modesty, the 55-year-old former middleweight champion said: “My cooking now, there are no words.”

He will be among 20 famous faces in the starting line-up next week, facing the MasterChef judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

Eubank, sounding as confident as he did during his boxing days, said: “You will see on the show where I cook one simple dish, it knocked even me off my feet.

“The proof is in the eating and I can remember Gregg saying, ‘I can’t work you out, but this is really good’.

“This was very simple food that I’m told most people don’t like, until obviously they taste mine.”

Eubank also told the Radio Times how he had educated other contestants on the show, which this season features dancer Katya Jones, 33, TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher, 46, and actress Lesley Joseph, 76.

Eubank, who was the WBO middleweight and super-middleweight champ between 1990 and 1995, said: “It’s almost as though I had to teach them what the relationship is between the chef and the food.

“They just didn’t have any idea how to love the food and the process.

Greg Wallace is back for another series (BBC)

“The difference with my food is the love that’s in it.

“When I cook, if my wife is there or not, it’s like I’m on a date. I dim the lights, I put on Nat King Cole.

“I am floating in there. Let me tell you, any woman would die to be in that kitchen.”

  • Celebrity MasterChef kicks off on BBC1 on August 10 at 8pm.
