Chloe Madeley explains meaning behind her daughter's 'ancient' name

Chloe Madeley has explained the reason for calling her daughter, Bodhi Rae Georgia Haskell. The TV personality and personal trainer, 35, recently had her first child with rugby player James Haskell, 37, who she has been married to since 2018.

Chloe revealed that it was actually a friend who inspired her to go with the alternative option of 'Bodhi' for her daughter. “A friend of mine is a very Mother Earth type of person, a yoga instructor, the absolute opposite of me and she had a daughter about four years ago and was toying with Bodhi or Mia.

“She went with Mia and I was so happy she did because the second she said Bodhi I was like, ‘I want it, it's mine’." You can get more celebrity news and other story updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.

Opening up to OK! Chloe continued: "Something in my brain liked the Bs and the Os. The roundness and the cuteness, and I love the meaning - it means enlightenment, it means new life . It’s ancient Sanskrit and it’s popular in some countries, but none of which are Western.”

She did say, however, that her husband James took some convincing. She added: “James was really on the fence with Bodhi, I don’t think he was that into it, but the second he saw her he said she really looks like a Bodhi and she really does. But we just call her Bos and Bo-Bo.

“I’ve always loved Rae for a girl but I think it’s more of a middle name, and Georgia was a top contender. I would have just called her George because I like boys' names for girls but we thought Bodhi Rae with a sprinkling of Georgia which I suppose is a bit more traditional just sounded really lovely."

Bodhi arrived at 8.36am on August 10, weighing 7lb 9oz and with “long legs like her dad’'s” after a difficult eight-hour induced labour ended in a C-section. Chloe had planned on having a natural water birth with gas and air but when Bodhi stayed put 24 hours after her waters had broken, she was told she needed to be induced due to the risk of infection.

Chloe has said that her traumatic ordeal was forgotten in an instant once she got to hold her daughter safely in her arms for the first time. “The second they picked her up and showed her to me, it was the best day of my life," she said, "It sounds so cheesy and cliché, but I was like ‘wow! That’s my baby and I get to take her home' - I was so excited. I felt so lucky. I’ve never been happier - it doesn’t matter how your labour goes, when you get your baby it’s all worth it.”

Chloe and James have moved back in with her famous parents, Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan, in London’s affluent Hampstead Heath while renovations to their new home five minutes down the road are completed.
