China's most celebrated melodies will be featured in the intimate live performance "Erhu Greatest Hits" at Sala Sudasiri Sobha, Lat Phrao 41 yaek 7-2, this Saturday and Sunday at 4pm.
Held to celebrate the timeless masterpieces that have shaped the erhu repertoire for generations, this special concert features award-winning Thai erhu virtuoso Numpark Sribanditmongkol and pianist Isanan Chotirosniramit.
Far more than a traditional instrumental recital, the concert explores how the erhu has evolved from a centuries-old folk instrument into a celebrated voice on today's international concert stages, film soundtracks and contemporary media.
Audiences will journey through some of the most beloved works ever written for the instrument -- from the exhilarating Racing Horse and the legendary Moon Reflections On The Second Spring to contemporary favourites including Chrysanthemum Terrace.
With stories of heroism, nostalgia, love, ancient legends and breathtaking landscapes woven throughout the programme, the performance offers them a rare opportunity to discover why the erhu continues to captivate listeners across cultures and generations.
Numpark is one of Thailand's most internationally recognised erhu performers. Winner of the World Erhu Competition 2023, he was also the first Thai musician to receive a distinction in the Grade 10 Erhu Examination administered by the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
Beyond the concert stage, he has built an international career as a composer, sound designer and music producer. He has collaborated with internationally acclaimed composers, helping bring Thai musical traditions to global audiences through film, television, games and interactive media.
Isanan, meanwhile, is a graduate of the Royal College of Music, London, whose performances and competition appearances have taken him across Europe and Asia. His refined musicianship and international training provide the perfect musical partnership for one of the world's most expressive string instruments.
Tickets cost 1,000, 1,800 and 2,500 baht (500 baht for students) including food and drinks at the post-concert reception.
