Officials in southwestern China have issued an unusual reprieve to a prominent singer who included an unapproved track during a weekend show, putting a fresh spotlight on the nation's strict oversight of live entertainment.

Under long-standing censorship regulations in China, all live entertainment content—spanning musical set lists to stand-up comedy material—must receive advance authorization from local regulators. Performers who fail to comply risk financial penalties or being barred from future events and public visibility.
