China backs its APEC vision with deeds

Shows full support for the regional grouping and particularly close relations with Thailand

The 20th CPC (Communist Party of China) National Congress report pointed out China plays an active part in the reform and development of the global governance system. It pursues a vision of global governance featuring shared growth through discussion and collaboration. China upholds true multilateralism, promotes greater democracy in international relations, and works to make global governance fairer and more equitable. The 21 APEC economies account for more than half of the world's GDP. China is one of the most important economies in APEC and the world. It is believed that the Party's 20th National Congress will help improve China-Asean relations, especially China-Thailand friendship.

The current global economic situation is more complex and severe, and economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region faces considerable downward pressure and risks and challenges. The 20th National Congress of the CPC upheld true multilateralism, which means that under the framework of the United Nations and at major multilateral meetings such as the Apec summits, China will always adhere to the view of global governance, continue to play its role as a responsible major country, and continue to contribute Chinese wisdom and strength to the reform and development of the global governance system.

On January 1 this year, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership(RCEP), initiated by ASEAN and involving 10 ASEAN countries and five non-ASEAN countries, took effect, marking the arrival of the world's most populous, largest trade and most promising free trade area. In November, the APEC summit and the G20 summit will also be held in Thailand and Indonesia, respectively, events that may reflect an important reality of the rise of Southeast Asia. Southeast Asia is China’s close neighbour. With a population of 650 million, it enjoys vast geographical space and rapid economic development. It is also a favourite tourist destination for many Chinese people. With the deepening of economic development and integration, Southeast Asia's influence in the world is increasing. Economically, Southeast Asia is of particular significance to China. At present, the economic and trade integration between China and ASEAN is deepening, and Southeast Asia has become a major destination for the outward transfer of Chinese capital and industries. The development of trade relations between China and ASEAN is the most concentrated and direct embodiment of the development of bilateral economic relations. The rise of Southeast Asia is an indispensable part of the rise of East Asia. Exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN are the core content and an important guarantee of the rise of East Asia, with a solid foundation and broad prospects. With the conclusion of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), China will take an active part in the APEC Summit held in Thailand to put into practice the vision of a community for mankind and inject new impetus into the development and rise of Southeast Asia.

What needs to be emphasised is the closeness of China-Thailand relations. "One Thai-China family" is unique to both countries, which means that two countries are not only friends, but also family members. Even though there is no border connection between Thailand and China, the brotherhood is so close. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-Thailand comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership. The two countries are working towards the goal and vision of building a community of shared future, adding new meaning to the "China-Thailand family" and ushering in a more stable, prosperous and sustainable future of bilateral relations.

Foreign minister WangYi attended the United Nations general assembly in New York. During his meeting with the Thai deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, he pointed out that China's support of the Thai side gives play to the role of the host and the success of the APEC economic leaders' meeting this year. “The objective is to ensure the meeting focuses on the Asia-Pacific economy, adhering to the goals of the Asia-Pacific free trade zone, powering the region to speed up recovery, and uniting to take on urgent challenges and make Asia's voice heard and contribution to the building of the Asia-Pacific community recognised,” he said.

“The opening of the China-Laos railway is expected to connect Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Thailand is stepping up efforts to promote regional connectivity. Bangse Station, the central high-speed railway station in Bangkok, has been built and is expected to connect with China's high-speed railway. The Chinese and Thai people share the dream of taking a high-speed train from Bangse Station in Bangkok to Kunming, China. It is believed this dream will come true.”

In the report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, it was emphasised that China has always adhered to the foreign policy purpose of safeguarding world peace and promoting common development, and is committed to building a community with a shared future for mankind. At a time when the world, the times and history are changing in an unprecedented way, China's commitment to "peace, development, cooperation and win-win" will inject more stability and positive energy into the turbulent world and world peace and development. On the one hand, the current international situation is complicated on the whole. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has increased the factors of uncertainty and intensified the game between major countries. In particular, the US is pursuing the so-called "Indo-Pacific strategy", launching the "Indo-Pacific Economic framework" and forming a closed and exclusive "clique" in an attempt to stir up division and confrontation in the region. On the other hand, China-Asean relations and Lancang-Mekong cooperation are at an important stage of upgrading. Against this backdrop, the successful conclusion of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China will inject more stable expectations into the region and the world, and is of great practical significance in addressing global challenges and promoting global economic recovery.
