Children's log circle stolen from Kirkcudbright woodland by "morons"

Logs used as seats by youngsters in a community woodland have been stolen by “morons”.

The seats had only been in place in Barhill Woods on the outskirts of Kirkcudbright for a few weeks before they were taken earlier this month.

The seats were made by volunteers and used by youngsters from Kirkcudbright Primary as well as children taking part in Forest School and Nurture in Nature classes.

Rob Asbridge from Kirkcudbright Development Trust, which is working on a community buyout of the woodland, said: “The community do all these things for the children and morons like this spoil it all.

“We had only had them there for a few weeks and they are quite heavy – they’re probably 25 kilos each.

“It has been quite sophisticated.

“They have used a trailer – it’s not been a small six by four trailer, it’s been a sizeable one.

“ We are not stopping the classes “Volunteers will cut replacement logs and we will continue.”

It is believed that the logs were taken between May 8 and 9.

A post on Kirkcudbright Development Trust’s Facebook page on Friday said the theft was “almost unbelievable and deeply upsetting”.

It added: “We are hoping against hope that the person who stole the logs didn’t realise what they were for and will return them with no questions asked.

“We don’t want to believe that we have such low-life in our community, that would steal £20 worth of logs and ruin the enjoyment of our children.”

However, Mr Asbridge said since the post was put up there had been no further information on what had happened.
