New Delhi: Union minister for personnel Jitendra Singh on Sunday said mentally challenged child of a deceased government employee or pensioner is entitled to family pension and the spirit of this provision needs to be understood and respected.
Singh said this had to be reiterated as some cases had come to the notice of the department of pension and pensioners' welfare, of banks not allowing family pension in respect of a mentally challenged child, through the person nominated by the pensioner or his/her spouse, and insisting on a guardianship certificate issued by a court of law.
